Air Injection Pump: Testing and Inspection




System Operation
1. Start the engine.
2. Increase the engine speed to above 3250 rpm and verify that the air pump magnetic clutch switches OFF (releases).




Magnetic Clutch Inspection
1. Connect the Special Service Tool (SST) (Engine Signal Monitor Adaptor Harness) to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Short the ECM terminal 2J and verify that the magnetic clutch OFF.
4. If the magnetic clutch does not OFF, check the air pump relay.
5. If the relay is OK disconnect the air pump connector and check the continuity.
6. If not as specified, replace the air pump.




Continuity Inspection
1. Disconnect the air pump connection.
2. Check for continuity between terminals.
3. If no continuity, replace the air pump.




Pressure Inspection
1. Disconnect air hose (from air control valve to air pump) at the air control valve.
2. Connect the SST to the air hose.
3. Start the engine and run it at idle.
4. Measure the pressure.

Pressure
More than 4.9 kPa (0.05 kgf/cm2, 0.7 psi)


5. If not as specified, replace the air pump.
