Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection
- Start and warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.- Let the engine idle.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose between the purge solenoid valve and the charcoal canister.
- Put a finger to the purge solenoid valve and verify that there is no vacuum applied.
- If there is vacuum, do as follows.
- Connect the SSTs (NGS) to the data link connector-2.
- Verify that diagnostic trouble code No. P1457 is not displayed. If code No. P1457 is shown, carry out troubleshooting of the code No. P1457.
- If diagnostic trouble codes are not shown, check the following:
- Purge solenoid valve
- Reconnect the vacuum hose.
- Connect the SSTs (NGS) to the data link connector-2.
- Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.
- Increase the duty value of the purge solenoid valve from 0% to 100% by using the "PRGV". Operate the purge solenoid valve and check if the idle condition changes.
- If the condition does not change, do as follows:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Verify that diagnostic trouble code No. P1457 is not displayed. If code No. P1457 is shown, carry out troubleshooting of the code No. P1457.
- Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.
- Increase duty value of the purge solenoid valve from 0% to 100% by using the "PRGV". Operate the purge solenoid valve and check if the operation sound of the valve is heard.
- If the operation sound is heard, check the following:
- Loose or damaged vacuum hose
- If the operation sound is not heard, check the following:
- Purge solenoid valve
