With Automatic Transaxle
AIR VALVE INSPECTIONNOTE: This inspection must be done with the engine cold. Engine coolant below 20°C (68°F).
1. Start the engine.
2. Verify that the idle speed decreases gradually as the engine warms up.
3. If the engine speed does not decrease inspect the idle air control valve and air valve.
IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE INSPECTION
1. Start the engine and run it at idle.
2. Disconnect the IAC valve connector and verify that the engine speed changes.
3. If the engine condition will not change, do as follows.
NGS Connected To DLC-2:
a. Connect the Special Service Tools (SST)s New Generation Star (NGS) tester to the data link connector-2.
b. Select the "SIMULATION TEST" function on the NGS display.
c. Change the duty value of the IAC valve to 100% by using the "SIMULATION TEST" function and verify that the idle speed increases.
I. If the idle speed increase, replace the PCM.
II. If the idle speed does not change, replace the BAC valve.
4. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and run it idle.
5. Turn the electrical load ON and verify that the engine speed is within the specification.
NOTE: Excludes temporary idle speed drop just after the electrical loads are turned ON.
6. If not as specified, check the related switches and wiring harnesses.
