DESCRIPTION

The MIL may illuminate while driving with DTC P0421 stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory. This may be caused by the PCMs sensitivity and can be affected by degraded performance of the front 3-way catalytic converter. A modified PCM calibration is available to reduce this concern.

Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer complaint.

2. Inspect the vehicle for an Authorized Modification Label indicating that the vehicle has already been reprogrammed with the latest calibration for DTC P0421 and P1407.

If the label is present, contact the Technical Assistance Hotline.
If the label is not present, proceed to Step 3.

3. Use the flowchart on to reprogram the PCM and monitor the O2 sensor fluctuation to determine the condition of the front catalytic converter.
