Millenia With LJ4A-El
The transaxle oil pan could contain small chips, shavings, and other particles helpful in checking the condition of the transaxle and diagnosing certain problems. To ensure all foreign particles stay in the oil pan, make sure the transaxle is never tipped completely over while the oil pan is installed.1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain transaxle fluid into suitable container.
3. Remove battery and battery cover, then the battery carrier.
4. Remove rear intercooler air duct, then the air cleaner assembly and resonance chamber.
5. Remove selector cable clip and nut, then the cable.
6. Remove output speed sensor, transaxle range sensor and solenoid valve electrical connectors.
7. Remove emission harness bracket, then the control cable bracket.
8. Remove starter bracket, then the starter.
9. Disconnect speed sensor 2 electrical connector, then remove front intercooler.
10. Remove electric cooling fan assembly as follows:
a. On models equipped with two-speed fan, remove radiator grill.
b. Remove lefthand upper seal board.
c. Remove radiator reservoir with hoses still connected, then position radiator reservoir away from radiator.
d. Disconnect coolant fan motor electrical connector, then remove cooling fan assembly,
11. Remove wheels and tires, then the locknut.
12. Remove splash shield, then the undercover.
13. Remove fresh air duct.
14. Remove exhaust pipe nuts, then the exhaust pipe.
15. Remove lower ball joint, then the lefthand upper lateral link.
16. Remove righthand lower control arm.
17. Remove righthand upper link, then separate righthand driveshaft from joint assembly by using suitable brass bar and hammer.
18. Remove joint shaft, then the stabilizer control link.
19. Remove lefthand driveshaft as follows:
a. Disconnect upper lateral link ball joint, then suspend axle assembly to prevent damage to link bushing.
b. Separate lefthand driveshaft from transaxle by prying with suitable bar inserted between outer ring and transaxle, Fig. 23. Sharp edges of driveshaft snap ring can slice or puncture oil seal. Use care when removing driveshaft from transaxle.
c. Suspend driveshaft with rope, then install differential side gear holder tool No. 49 G030 455, or equivalent, into transaxle to hold side gear.
20. Remove timing belt.
21. Remove A/C drive belt.
22. Remove power steering oil pump.
23. Remove A/C compressor as follows:
a. Discharge and recover refrigerant from A/C system.
b. Disconnect magnetic clutch electrical connector.
c. Remove high and low cooler hoses. Do not allow compressor oil to spill. Immediately plug all openings to keep moisture out of system.
d. Remove A/C compressor.
24. Remove shift control rod nut, then the rod.
25. Remove transaxle fluid filler tube.
26. Install suitable engine support tool, then Loosen No. 3 engine mount bolt and remove No. 4 engine mount bolt.
27. Remove No. 1 engine mount nut, then the mount damper.
28. Remove No. 2 engine mount nut.
29. Remove undercover, then, holding driveplate, the torque converter bolts
30. Remove No. 1 engine mount bolt, then the engine mount member bolts and bolt.
31. Remove oil hose.
32. Loosen engine support tool and lean engine toward transaxle.
33. Support transaxle on suitable jack, then remove transaxle bolts and transaxle.
34. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque engine mounting member bolts A to 50 - 68 ft.lb., then the B nut to 55 - 77 ft.lb., Fig. 9.
b. Adjust selector cable.
