Brake pads should be replaced as a set if lining thickness is below 0.08 inch on any pad.1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and caliper lower mounting bolt.
2. Pivot caliper upward off rotor, Fig. 2 and 3. Do not disconnect hydraulic line unless caliper is to be replaced. Support caliper to prevent hydraulic line damage.
3. Remove anti-rattle springs and brake pads. Note spring orientation for installation reference.
4. Slide pad guide plates out of mounting support, Fig. 2 and 3.
5. Ensure brake rotor thickness is above minimum specification and is not warped or deeply grooved. If any of these conditions exist, replace or machine rotor as necessary.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Prior to installing caliper, carefully compress piston into bore using clamp tool No. 49-0221-600C, or equivalent. It may be necessary to remove a small amount of brake fluid from reservoir to prevent overfilling when pistons are compressed.
b. When installation is complete, depress brake pedal several times to seat pads and caliper pistons properly, then rotate each wheel by hand to ensure brakes do not drag.
c. If rear brake rotor has been replaced, apply parking brake to ensure shoes seat properly.
