Ignition Timing: Adjustments




PREPARATION
- Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
- Shift the transaxle into Neutral (MTX) or P position (ATX).
- Turn off all loads.
- Headlight
- Blower motor
- Rear window defroster
- Power steering
- Wait until the cooling fan stops.
- Connect the Special Service Tools (SST)s New Generation Star (NGS) tester to the data link connector-2 and select the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD function.
- Select the "RPM" on the NGS display.

IGNITION TIMING
- Perform "Preparation".
- Verify that the idle speed is within the specification.

Specification: 700 - 800 rpm

- If not as specified, adjust the idle speed.




- Connect the SST (System Selector) to the data link connector.
- Set switch A to position 1.
- Set the test switch to SELF TEST
- Connect a timing light to the high-tension lead of the No.1 cylinder.




- Verify that the timing mark (white) is within the specification.

Specification: 1° BTDC - 1° ATDC




- If not as specified, loosen the distributor lock bolts and turn the distributor to make the adjustment.
- Tighten the distributor lock bolts to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 19 - 25 Nm (14 - 18 ft. lbs.)

- Disconnect the SST (System Selector).
- Verify that the ignition timing is within the specification.

Specification: BTDC 6 - 18°
