DESCRIPTION

Engine knock may occur when the intake air temperature is high This concern may be most noticeable during acceleration when the vehicle is parked (for approximately 5 - 15 minutes) after high speed (freeway) driving.

This concern is caused by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) logic. The logic for the ignition timing has been changed to reduce this concern. This PCM is available as a service part for affected regions.

Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and it necessary, the PCM replaced with the service part (for 1995 Protege vehicles) or modified part (for 1996 Protege vehicles) Refer to the Parts Information for accurate part ordering.
