Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR INSPECTION
1. Remove the distributor.




2. Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
3. Connect the distributor 6-pin connector.




4. Connect the Special Service Tools (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter Harness) to the PCM.

WARNING:
- Turning the ignition switch on with the fuel injector connector still connected will actuate the fuel injector.
- Turning the ignition switch on with the distributor 3-pin connector still connected will generate sparks, which can cause electrical shock. Disconnect the connector and avoid grounding to the vehicle body.

5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
6. Measure the voltage at PCM terminal 3A.




7. Rotate the distributor drive by hand and check the output signal.




8. If not as specified, inspect the wiring harness and connector between the distributor and the PCM terminal.
9. If there is correct terminal voltage and harness continuity, replace the distributor.
