Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the distributor.




2. Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
3. Connect the distributor connector.

WARNING:
- Turning the ignition switch on with the fuel injector connector still connected will actuate the fuel injector.
- Turning the ignition switch on with the high- tension lead still connected will generate sparks, which can cause electrical shock. Disconnect the high-tension lead and avoid it from grounding to the vehicle body.




4. Connect the Special Service Tools (Engine Signal Monitor) to the PCM.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
6. Measure the voltage at PCM terminal 4F.




7. Rotate the distributor drive by hand and check the output signal.




8. If not as specified, inspect the wiring harness and connector between the distributor and the PCM terminal.
9. If there is correct terminal voltage and harness continuity, replace the distributor.
