WATER LEAK ONTO FRONT FLOOR MAT

APPLICABLE MODELS

All 1997 Protege with VINs lower than JM1 BC14** V0 128739 (built before December 10, 1996).

DESCRIPTION





When driving in the rain or washing a car, water enters at the upper part of the side window sill and flows down to the bracket which secures the front door pull handle to the door trim and then drips onto the front floor mat.

Customers complaining of this subject should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, use the following repair procedure

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Identify that water entry is from front door(s).

3. Remove the front door trim per the Workshop Manual.





4. Remove door pull handle bracket from front door frame.





5. Apply a small amount of RTV silicon sealer (Permatex 16 or equivalent) to the sheet metal holes on the door frame.

6. Then insert wings of the door pull handle bracket through RTV sealer and into locating holes on door frame. Fasten bracket to door frame.

7. Install door trim back to door frame.

8. Verify the repair.
