DESCRIPTION

A customer may complain of the fuel gauge intermittently being inaccurate with the MIL illuminated. A DTC P1455 (fuel tank gauge malfunction) is stored in memory. The following are possible causes for this code:

^ The variable resistance contact on one or both of the fuel gauge sender units is soiled with black material, resulting in an open circuit or high resistance connection (the fuel gauge indicates "E").

^ Poor electrical connections to the wiring harness or connectors between the fuel gauge sending units, instrument cluster, ECM or ground points.

^ A short or open circuit to the fuel gauge inside of the instrument cluster.

Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
