Upper Lateral Link
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove the splash shield(s).
2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
4. Adjust the front wheel alignment.
Upper Lateral Link Ball Joint Removal Note
1. Suspend the axle component by using a rope
2. Install the Special Service Tools (SSTs) to the ball joint
3. Tighten the bolt of the SSTs to 34 - 35 Nm (25 - 26 ft. lbs.).
4. Tap the knuckle as shown.
CAUTION:
^ Do not tap the ball joint and the stud bolt
^ Be careful not to make an edge on the knuckle.
Nut, Cam Plate, And Adjusting Cam Bolt Removal
1. Support the crossmember by using a jack.
2. Remove the crossmember installation nuts.
3. Lower the crossmember to gain clearance.
4. Before loosening the nut, make a mark on the cam plate and the crossmember for reference during Installation.
Upper Lateral Link Bushing Removal Note
- Remove the bushing by using the SSTs.
Dust Boot And Clip Installation Note
1. Wipe any grease off the ball stud.
2. Fill the inside of the new dust boot with grease
3. Install the boot on the ball joint.
4. Install the new clip by using the SST.
5. Wipe away any excessive grease.
Upper Lateral Link Bushing Installation Note
1. Apply soapy water to the new bushing
2. Insert the new bushing to the upper lateral link (chamfered side).
3. Position the SSTs on the upper lateral link as shown.
4. Press the bushing into the upper lateral link.
Nut, Cam Plate, and Adjusting Cam Bolt Installation Note
1. Install the cam plate so that the notch faces the same direction as the adjusting cam bolt.
2. Align the marks that were made before removing the adjusting cam bolt, and tighten the nut.
Tightening torque: 79 - 116 Nm (58 - 86 ft. lbs.).
INSPECTION
1. Inspect the link for damage and boot cracks. Replace it as necessary.
2. Inspect the ball joint for looseness. Replace the link as necessary.
3. Shake the ball joint stud at least 5 times.
4. Connect the SSTs to the stud and measure the rotation torque by using a pull scale.
Rotation torque: 0.3 - 3.9 Nm (2.6 - 34 inch lbs.).
Pull scale reading: 3.0 - 39 N (0.7 - 8.6 lbs.).
5. If not within the specification, replace the upper lateral link.
