ROOF INSULATOR PEELING OFF
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
All 1998 Millenia.
DESCRIPTION
The root insulator on the top of the ceiling may peel away from the root panel. The condition may result in the insulator hanging down in some areas and restricting the operation of the sunshade or sunroof. To prevent this condition, the cardboard layer between the roof panel and the adhesive has been eliminated. To improve noise insulation and adhesive properties, the thickness of the roof insulator has been increased from 6mm to 10mm and adhesive changed (see illustration).
Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer complaint.
2. Open the sun shade as far as possible without causing damage to the sun shade or insulator.
3. Remove sun roof side covers (left and right).
4. Mark the position of the six (6) nuts attaching the sun roof glass panel. Then remove nuts.
5. Remove the glass panel by carefully pushing up on the glass from inside the vehicle.
6. Straighten the insulator leading edge through the opening of the sunroof using a piece of wood stock (25" x 1 x 1/4") or other suitable material.
7. Apply 3M # 08008 Super Weather-strip Adhesive or equivalent to the insulator using a wooden paint stirrer or equivalent (approximately 20 inches).
8. Carefully place the insulator into place and avoid getting any excess adhesive onto sunshade.
9. Install the sun roof panel and adjust the position according to the marks on the nuts.
10. Verify repair.
