Drum Brake System: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION





1. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
3. After installation, inspect the following.
(1) Depress the pedal several times. Then rotate the wheel by hand and verify that the brakes do not drag.
(2) Inspect the pedal-to-floor clearance. Refer to Hydraulic System / Brake Pedal Assy.
(3) Inspect the parking brake lever stroke. Refer to Parking Brake System / Parking Brake Lever.


Brake Drum Removal Note





- If the brake drum is hard to remove, loosen the parking cable nut fully and secure the stopper until the operating lever returns to release the sticking of the brake drum.


Backing Plate Installation Note





- Before installing the brake shoes, apply grease to the points shown.


Brake Drum Installation Note





- Before installing the brake drum, depress the brake pedal to verify operation of the automatic adjuster.
