Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR TEST1. Remove the distributor.
2. Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
3. Connect the distributor 6-pin connector.
WARNING: Turning the ignition switch to ON with the fuel injector connector still connected will actuate the fuel injector. Fuel may shoot out and ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Disconnect the fuel injector connector before turning the ignition switch to ON. Also, turning the ignition switch on with the distributor 3-pin connector still connected will generate sparks, which can cause electrical shock. Disconnect the connector and avoid it from grounding to the vehicle body.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Measure the voltage at PCM terminal 4F by using a voltmeter.
6. Rotate the distributor drive by hand and inspect the output signal.
Specification
7. If not as specified, inspect the wiring harness and connector between the distributor and the PCM terminal.
8. If there is correct terminal voltage and harness continuity, replace the distributor.
