DESCRIPTION
An exhaust resonance noise can be heard from the exhaust system at approximately 2200-2300 RPM during acceleration under moderate loads. This concern can be caused by the exhaust flexible joint between catalytic converter and pre-silencer. A dynamic damper set is available to resolve this concern.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repair using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. While referring to the INSTALLATION OVERVIEW illustration, install stiffener at LOCATION A as follows.
A. Slightly loosen existing exhaust flange nuts (approximate 1-2 turns).
B. Install stiffener with notch pointed toward the engine only partially tightening the clamp bolts.
Note:
^ Clamps must be installed with large tang on top.
C. Tighten exhaust flange nuts.
Tightening torque
38-51 Nm (28-38 ft-lbf)
D. Tighten stiffener clamp bolts.
Tightening torque
7.8-10.8 Nm (69-95 in-lbf)
3. Install damper at LOCATION B as shown. Again. refer to illustration.
A. Using a ruler, mark the exhaust pipe 88 mm (3-1/2 inches) from main silencer brace weld.
B. Assemble dynamic damper onto stud of clamp band with the two insulators positioned between damper and band as shown in illustration. Tighten nut.
Note:
^ Dynamic damper must face towards front of vehicle.
Tightening torque
16-19 Nm (11-14 ft-lbf)
C. Loosely install dynamic damper assembly with U-bolt/clamp band centered on mark from STEP 3A.
D. Center dynamic damper assembly between upper and lower crossmembers as shown in illustration.
E. Tighten U-bolt nuts.
Tightening torque
6.9-9.8 Nm (60-80 in-lbf)
4. Verify repair
