Exhaust System: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVAL NOTE
1. Remove the air cleaner and disconnect the air hose.





2. Remove the water bypass pipe stay bolt.

Tightening torque:
64 - 89 Nm {48 - 65 ft. lbs.)

3. Loosen the EGR pipe mounting nut.

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION NOTE





^ Remove and install the heated oxygen sensor by using the SST.

WARM UP THREE WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER INSTALLATION NOTE





^ Install the warm up three way catalytic converter with the shaded area facing toward the engine as shown.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD INSTALLATION NOTE





^ Face the bead of the gasket toward the exhaust manifold as shown, and install the exhaust manifold.

FRONT PIPE INSTALLATION NOTE
1. Hand tighten the bolts and nuts in the order shown.
2. Tighten nut B.

Tightening torque:
38 - 51 Nm (28 - 38 ft. lbs.)

3. Inspect for correct alignment at E (front pipe and bracket).
4. Inspect for correct alignment at F (hanger bracket and U-bolt), then tighten nut D or bolt H.

Tightening torque:
Nut D: 10 - 16 Nm (87 - 147 inch lbs.)
Bolt H: 7.9 - 10.7 Nm (69.5 - 95.4 inch lbs.)

5. Verify that C (range and bracket) contacts with A (cylinder block and bracket), then tighten nut C.

Tightening torque:
19 - 25 Nm (14 - 18 ft. lbs.)











6. Tighten bolt A.

Tightening torque:
38 - 51 Nm (28 - 38 ft. lbs.)
