DESCRIPTION

During cold ambient temperatures, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may come ON if the vehicle is stopped within 10-20 minutes after a cold engine start. This condition may be caused by improperly calibrated winter fuel blends resulting in temporary Rich LFT (long fuel trim) and SFT (short fuel trim) readings.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Confirm FREEZE FRAME DATA was set for DTC P0170 and record it on repair order.





3. Perform the Workshop Manual (section 01) diagnostic procedures for DTC P0170.

- If a cause was found during the diagnostic procedures, use the Workshop Manual to repair it. Then proceed to STEP 6.

- If cause was not found during the diagnostic procedures and the FREEZE FRAME DATA indicates LFT and SFT were "RICH" 85 shown in the example below, proceed to STEP 4 and install an Open Vent Kit.

Example FREEZE FRAME DATA:
ECT 192F, F/S 1 CLSD, LOAD 24.7%, LFT-15, RPM 687, SFT-14, MPH 0)





4. Disconnect the purge hose (port side) from the adapter in the hose between the purge port and the purge solenoid as shown.





5. Install the Open Vent Kit as shown. Be sure to use a tie-wrap and loosely secure the Vent Kit air filter hose to the brake booster hose.

6. Verify repair.
