DESCRIPTION
The MIL and CD OFF light are "ON" with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0705. In some cases the customer may experience erratic shifting and/or no shifting out of third gear. This can be caused by moisture entering the Transmission Range (TR) Switch resulting in corrosion of the terminals during the manufacturing process. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Retrieve FREEZE FRAME DATA and record on repair order.
3. Check TR Switch terminals for moisture and/or corrosion.
^ If only moisture is found, blow terminals dry with compressed air then go to STEP 4.
^ If corrosion is found on TR Switch terminals follow workshop manual instructions and replace the TR Switch.
Caution
Follow Workshop Manual instructions for TR Switch replacement or internal damage to transmission will occur.
^ If no abnormal condition can be seen at TR Switch connector terminals, perform diagnostic procedures for DTC P0705 according to section 05-01 of the Workshop Manual.
4. Apply dielectric grease to terminals then reconnect connector.
5. Clear stored code(s).
6. Verify the repair.
