DESCRIPTION
When performing a scheduled maintenance, you may notice coolant residue at the water pump weep hole. This condition can be a normal part of the water pump seal break-in period. To confirm that this condition is due to the break-in period and not a faulty water pump, perform a cooling system pressure test according to the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify concern.
2. Remove radiator cap and install pressure tester.
3. Pressurize system to:
123 kPa (1.25 kgf/sq.cm, 17.8 psi)
Caution
Applying more than 123 kPa (1.25 kgf/sq.cm, 17.8 psi) can damage the hoses, fittings and other components, and cause leaks.
4. Wait approximately 5 minutes, then verify if cooling system did or did not hold applied pressure.
^ If system held applied pressure, water pump replacement is NOT necessary.
^ If system did not hold applied pressure and the water pump is leaking, replace water pump.
^ If system did not hold applied pressure and the pump is not leaking, refer to the Workshop Manual, (COOLING SYSTEM) section.
5. Verify repair.
