Control Valve Body (On-Vehicle Removal / Installation)
CONTROL VALVE BODY AND THERMOSTATIC OIL LEVEL CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LA4A-EL]Caution Clean the transaxle exterior thoroughly with a steam cleaner or cleaning solvents before removal.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the ATF.
3. Remove the battery component.
4. Remove the fresh-air duct, air cleaner component.
5. Remove the wheel and tire.
6. Remove the splash shield.
7. Disconnect the Transaxle Range (TR) switch connector.
8. Disconnect the solenoid body connector.
9. Remove the oil hose.
10. Remove the control valve body cover.
11. Remove the control valve body mounting bolts.
Caution Do not pull off the connector wires or use a hammer on the connector.
12. Remove the control valve body component.
13. If the thermostatic oil level control valve must be removed, remove the bolt and the bracket. Pull the thermostatic oil level control valve straight out
14. If the thermostatic oil level control valve was removed, insert it into the transaxle case and install the bracket and bolt.
Tightening torque
11 - 13 Nm (112 - 133 kgf.cm, 97 - 115 inch lbs.)
15. Install a new O-ring on the solenoid electrical connector and lightly coat the O-ring with petroleum jelly.
Caution Do not pull wires or damage connector body.
16. Place the control valve body slightly away from the transaxle case and push the solenoid body connector into its bore.
17. Align the Z-link in the manual valve.
18. Install the 12 mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts in the sequence shown.
Tightening torque
9 - 11 Nm (92 - 112 kgf.cm, 80 - 97 inch lbs.)
19. Loosen the nut on the ball stud for the manual valve detent actuating rod.
20. Remove the manual lever control shaft outer lever.
21. Use the SST to move the shaft to the D range position and install the pin to hold the tool in position.
22. Move the manual valve detent lever to the D range position.
23. Loosen the nut on the ball stud for the manual valve detent lever actuating rod component.
24. Initially tighten the nut on the ball. Remove the shifter pin.
25. Rotate the SST until the socket can be installed on the nut. Tighten the manual valve detent lever ball stud nut.
Tightening torque
11 - 13 Nm (112 - 133 kgf.cm, 97 - 115 inch lbs.)
26. Remove the pin and SST.
27. Install the manual control lever component and bolt.
Tightening torque
24 - 30 Nm (2.4 - 3.1 kgf.m, 18 - 22 ft. lbs.)
28. Install the control valve body cover gasket on the case. Install the cover to the case.
29. Install the fourteen mounting bolts in the sequence shown.
Tightening torque
14 - 18 Nm (143 - 184 kgf.cm, 124 - 159 inch lbs.)
Caution If reusing the hose clamp, position it in the original location on the hose and squeeze the clamp lightly with large pliers to ensure a tight fit.
30. Install the oil hose.
31. Connect the solenoid body connector.
32. Connect the TR switch connector.
33. Install the splash shield.
34. Install the wheel and tire.
35. Install the fresh-air duct, air cleaner component.
36. Install the battery component.
37. Fill the transaxle with the specified ATF after installation.
38. Inspect for leakage of ATF from all connecting points.
39. Connect the negative battery cable.
40. Carry out the mechanical system test.
41. Carry out the road test.
