Oil Pump: Service and Repair

OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove the timing belt.
2. Remove the timing belt pulley.
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected. (FS)
5. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.
6. Remove the generator.
7. Remove the transaxle. (FS MTX)
8. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Oil Pan Upper Block Removal Note FS
1. For the MTX model, remove the two bolts at the rear of the oil pan upper block. For the ATX model, remove the two bolts as follows.
1. Remove the rubber cap on the bottom surface of the ATX.
2. Remove the two bolts of oil pan upper block through the holes which rubber caps have been removed.
2. Loosen the oil pan upper block bolts in two or three steps in the order shown.
3. Remove the oil pan upper block using the separator tool.
Oil Pump Removal Note
1. Remove the oil seal using a screwdriver protected with a rag.
Oil Pump Installation Note
1. Apply clean engine oil to the new oil seal.
2. Install the oil seal into the oil pump body by hand.
3. Press the oil seal into the oil pump body using a SST.

4. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pump as shown.
Thickness: 1.0 - 2.0 mm (0.04 - 0.07 inch)
5. Apply clean engine oil to the new O-ring and install it into the oil pump body. (KL)
6. Install the oil pump bolt as shown. (KL)
Bolt length
A: 40 mm (1.6 inch)
B: 25 mm (1.0 inch)
Oil Baffle Installation Note
1. Install the oil baffle and tighten the bolts in 2 or 3 steps in the order shown.
Tightening torque: 19 - 25 Nm (1.9 - 2.6 kgf-m, 14 - 18 ft. lbs.)
Oil Pan Upper Block Installation Note
1. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pump as shown.
Thickness: 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.08 - 0.11 inch)
2. Tighten the bolts A.
3. Tighten the oil pan upper block bolts in two or three steps in the order shown.
OIL PUMP DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY
1. Remove the oil pump.
2. Disassemble in the order indicated in the table.
3. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Inner Rotor Installation Note
1. Install the inner rotor and outer rotor into the oil pump body with the marks aligned as shown.
Oil Pump Cover Installation Note
1. Install the oil pump cover and tighten the bolts in the order shown.
Tightening torque: 5.9 - 8.8 Nm (60 - 90 kgf-cm, 53 - 78 inch lbs.)
OIL PUMP INSPECTION
Rotor Clearance Inspection
1. Measure the following clearance. Replace the rotor and/or pump body if necessary.
Standard tip clearance
FS: 0.130 - 0.206 mm (0.0052 - 0.0081 inch)
KL: 0.02 - 0.18 mm (0.0008 - 0.0070 inch)
Maximum tip clearance
FS: 0.30 mm (0.012 inch)
KL: 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch)
Standard body clearance: 0.113 - 0.186 mm (0.00445 - 0.00732 inch)
Maximum body clearance: 0.22 mm (0.0086 inch)
Standard side clearance
FS: 0.035 - 0.095 mm (0.0014 - 0.0037 inch)
KL: 0.03 - 0.08 mm (0.0012 - 0.0031 inch)
Maximum side clearance
FS: 0.14 mm (0.0055 inch)
KL: 0.13 mm (0.0051 inch)
Pressure Spring Inspection
FS
1. Apply pressing force to the pressure spring and check the spring height. Replace the pressure spring if necessary.
Pressing force: 97.7 - 107.4 N (9.96 - 10.96 kgf, 21.92 - 24.11 lbs.)
Standard height: 33.50 mm (1.319 inch)
KL
1. Measure the free length of the pressure spring.
- Replace the pressure spring if necessary.
Free length: 46.79 mm (1.842 inch)
