Variable Induction System: Description and Operation

VARIABLE RESONANCE INDUCTION SYSTEM (VRIS) [KL]

^ The solenoid valves are actuated at the engine speeds shown (under no engine load).

System Diagram

Variable Resonance Induction System (VRIS) Solenoid Valve Description Function
^ VRIS solenoid valve changes the air passage from the intake manifold or atmosphere to the VRIS for shutter valve actuation.
Structure
^ VRIS solenoid valve is composed of a coil, spring, plunger and filter.

Operation (energized)

^ The plunger is pulled back to open the air passage between the VRIS shutter valve actuator and VRIS vacuum chamber, which applies the intake manifold vacuum to the VRIS shutter valve actuator.

Operation (de-energized)

^ The plunger is returned forward to open the air passage between the VRIS shutter valve actuator and the VRIS solenoid valve air filter applies the vacuum is then vented to atmosphere and the VRIS shutter valve actuator.
