Variable Induction System: Testing and Inspection




1. Connect the SSTs (NGS tester) to the DLC-2.
2. Access ECT PID.
3. Verify ECT PID is 65 °C {149 °F} or less.
4. Start the engine.




5. Verify that the VTCS actuator rod is pulled.

6. If the rod is not pulled, inspect the following.
- VTCS shutter valve actuator
- VTCS delay valve stud
- VTCS chamber passage clogged
- Vacuum hose disconnected
- VTCS swirl control solenoid valve stuck
- Wiring harness damaged and/or connectors disconnected (Main relay-VTCS solenoid valve-PCM terminal 42)

7. Access RPM and IMRC PIDs.

8. Inspect the rod operation and IMRC PID under the following condition.
- If the rod operation and IMRC PID are not as specified, inspect for the following:
- VTCS shutter valve actuator stuck
- VTCS delay valve stuck
- VTCS chamber passage clogged
- Vacuum hose disconnected
- VTCS solenoid valve stuck
- Wiring harness damaged and/or connectors disconnected (Main relay-VTCS solenoid valve-PCM terminal 42)
