Bulletin No: 02-007/01

Last Issued: 12/21/2001

Subject:
GRINDING/RUBBING NOISE AT FRONT OF VEHICLE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2000 626 FS-AT (4 cylinder with automatic transmission) models with VINs from Y5148597 to Y5159897.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a grinding or rubbing noise from the front of the vehicle, especially when cornering or braking. This condition may be caused by contact between the end of the stabilizer bar and the rubber drive shaft damper.

Follow the outlined information for inspection and repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the customer concern.

A. Test drive the vehicle and listen for any noise.

B. Raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect both left and right sides of the front stabilizer bar.

^ If the stabilizer bar end to drive shaft damper clearances vary by more than 8 mm between the left and right side, or if either damper appears damaged, replace the stabilizer bar according to Workshop Manual (section 02-13 FRONT STABILIZER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

^ If the stabilizer bar end to drive shaft damper clearances appear even between the left and right side and no signs of contact are seen, continue diagnosing the source of the noise.

NOTE:
The point of contact and source of noise usually occurs on right side of vehicle.

2. Check new clearances and verify repair with test drive.
