Variable Tumble Control System (VTCS) Inspection

1. Start the engine.




2. Verify that the rod of the VICS shutter valve actuator is pulled.
- If the rod is pulled, proceed to Step 9.
- If the rod is not pulled, proceed to next step.

3. Stop the engine.
4. Connect the NGS tester to DLC-2.

5. Verify that DTC P1523 is not displayed.
- If DTC is shown, carry out troubleshooting of the code No. P1523.
- If DTC are not shown, proceed to next step.

6. Start the engine and run it at idle.




7. Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.

8. Turn the VICS solenoid valve from on to off using the "VICS V" and inspect if operation sound of the solenoid valve is heard.
- If the operation sound is heard, inspect the following.
- Loose or damaged vacuum hose and vacuum chamber.
- Shutter valve actuator.

- If the operation sound is not heard, inspect the following.
- VICS solenoid valve.

Rod Operation:




9. Inspect the rod operation under the following conditions.
- If the rod operation is not as specified, proceed to next step.

10. Stop the engine.
11. Connect the NGS tester to DLC-2.

12. Verify that DTC P1523 is not displayed. If DTC is shown, carry out DTC INSPECTION.
- If DTC are not shown, proceed to next step.

13. Start the engine and run it at idle.




14. Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.

15. Turn the VICS solenoid valve from on to off using the "VICS V" and inspect if operation sound of the solenoid valve is heard.
- If the operation sound is heard, inspect the following.
- Shutter valve actuator.

- If the operation sound is not heard, inspect the following.
- VICS solenoid vale.

NOTE: The shutter valve actuator rod extends for five seconds after the engine is started.
