Removal and Installation

OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

KJ

1. Remove the timing belt.
2. Remove the timing belt pulley.
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the generator.
5. Remove the P/S oil pump and bracket. (KJ)
6. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

On Pump Removal Note

1. Remove the oil seal using a screwdriver protected with a rag.

Oil Pump Installation Note

KL
1. Apply clean engine oil to a new oil seal

2. Install the oil seal into the oil pump body by hand.
3. Press the oil seal into the oil pump body using the SST.
Protrusion 0 - 0.7 mm (0 - 0.03 inch)

4. Apply silicone sealant to the contact surface of the oil pump.
Thickness 1.0 - 2.0 mm (0.04 - 0.07 inch)
5. Apply clean engine oil to a new O-ring and install it into the oil pump body.
6. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal lip.

7. Install the oil pump within 5 min of applying the sealant.
Tightening torque 19 - 25 Nm (1.9 - 2.6 kgf-m, 14 - 18 ft. lbs.)
Bolt length
A: 40 mm (1.6 inch)
B: 25 mm (1.0 inch)

8. Cut away the portion of the gasket that projects toward the oil pan.

KJ
1. Apply clean engine oil to a new oil seal.
2. Install the oil seal into the oil pump body by hand.
3. Press the oil seal into the oil pump body using the SST.
Protrusion 0 - 0.07 mm (0 - 0.02 inch)
Slope 0.4 mm (0.02 inch) max.

4. Apply silicone sealant to the contact surface of the oil pump.
Thickness 1.0 - 2.0 mm (0.0 - 0.07 inch)
5. Apply clean engine oil to a new O-ring and install it into the oil pump body.
6. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal lip.

7. Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts in 2 or 3 steps in the order shown.

Note:
- Install the auto tensioner and vacuum pump at the same time that you install the oil pump.
- Although the auto tensioner will have to be removed temporarily when the timing belt is installed, tighten it to the specified torque.

Tightening torque A: 20 - 30 Nm (2.0 - 3.1 kgf-m, 15 - 22 ft. lbs.) 19 - 25 Nm (1.9 - 2.6 kgf-m, 14 - 18 ft. lbs.)

Oil Baffle Installation Note

1. Install the oil baffle and tighten the bolts in 2 or 3 steps in the order shown.
Tightening torque 18.6 - 25.5 Nm (1.8 - 2.61 kgf-m, 13.7 - 18.8 ft. lbs.)
