All 1999-2001 Millenia KJ and KL with VINs lower than JM1 TA**** 11 618514.

DESCRIPTION





When driving at speeds of 40-70 MPH, a whine or ringing type noise may be heard inside the vehicle during slight acceleration or cruise conditions. This noise is being transmitted inside the cabin through the transmission selector cable. To help reduce this noise, a damper(s) has been added to the selector cable as shown. This noise may appear to be coming from instrument panel/dashboard area.

Note:
This noise may appear to be coming from instrument panel/dashboard area. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Record station presets.

3. In engine compartment, disconnect and remove battery and tray (Workshop Manual 01-19), air cleaner assembly (01-13). Disconnect selector cable mounting clip at bracket and remove cable mount nut at transmission linkage (05-18).

Note:
For KJ model, remove the right-hand charge air cooler (01-19).

4. Inside vehicle, remove center trim panel (trim around radio and selector lever), selector lever indicator panel, radio unit, PCM and rear bracket (05-18, 01-40).





5. Remove ducts for rear floor heat as shown.

6. Remove SAS module and bracket assembly as one unit (08-10).

7. Remove cable mount clip at selector lever bracket and two selector cable grommet mounting bolts at bulkhead (05-18). Then remove old cable from interior of vehicle.

8. Install modified selector cable in reverse order of removal.

9. Check that selector lever (gear indication) is adjusted properly (05-18).

10. Reset radio station presets and clock.

11. Verify repair.
