Variable Induction System: Testing and Inspection

1. Start the engine.




2. Verify that the rod of VICS shutter valve actuator is pulled.
- If the rod is pulled, proceed to Step 9.
- If the rod is not pulled, inspect as follows.

3. Stop the engine.




4. Connect the 5515 (NGS tester) to the DLC-2.
5. Verify that DTC No. P1523 is not displayed.
- If DTC No. P1523 is shown, carry out troubleshooting of the DTC No. P1523.
- If DTC P1523 is not displayed, proceed to next step.

6. Start the engine and run it at idle.
7. Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.
8. Turn the VICS solenoid valve from on to off using the VICSV and inspect if operation sound of the solenoid valve is heard.
- If the operation sound is heard, inspect the following:
- Loose or damaged vacuum hose and vacuum chamber
- Shutter valve actuator

- If the operation sound is not heard, carry out the following:
- VICS solenoid valve inspection

Rod Operation:




9. Inspect the rod operation under the following condition.
- If the rod operation is not as specified, inspect as follows.




10. Stop the engine.
11. Connect the SSTs (NGS tester) to the DLC-2.
12. Verify that DTC No. P1523 is not displayed. If DTC No. P1523 is shown, carry out troubleshooting of the DTC No. P1523.
- If DTCs are not shown, go to the next step.

13. Start the engine and run it at idle.
14. Select the SIMULATION TEST function on the NGS display.
15. Turn the VICS solenoid valve from on to off using the VICSV and inspect if operation sound of the solenoid valve is heard.
- If the operation sound is heard, inspect the following:
- Shutter valve actuator

- If the operational sound is not heard, carry out the following:
- VICS solenoid valve inspection

NOTE: The shutter valve actuator rod extends for five seconds after the engine is started.
