Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

CAUTION:

- Adjusting the TP sensor with the throttle adjusting screw (TAS) can adversely affect the engine. Do not adjust the TP sensor with the TAS.
- Since the TP sensor is adjusted by the manufacturer, adjusting the TP sensor excessively can adversely affect the engine. Do not adjust the TP sensor excessively.

1. Verify that the throttle valve is at the CTP.
2. Disconnect the TP sensor connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch on.

4. Measure and record the voltage of the disconnected harness side connector terminal A using a voltmeter.
- If not as specified, inspect the PCM terminal 90 voltage.

Specification: 4.5 - 5.5 V

5. Turn the ignition switch off.
6. Reconnect the TP sensor connector.

7. Loosen the TP sensor screws.

TP Sensor Adjustment Using the SST (104 Pin Breakout Box)
1. Remove the PCM.

2. Connect the SST (104 Pin Breakout Box) to the PCM as shown.
3. Tighten the connector bolt.

Tightening torque:
7.9 - 10.7 N.m {80 - 110 kgf.cm, 69.5 - 95.4 in.lbf}

4. Verify that the throttle valve is at the CTP.
5. Turn the ignition switch on.

Specification (At CTP):

6. Rotate the throttle link by hand and adjust the PCM terminal 89 voltage to specification.
7. Tighten the attaching screws.

Specification:
1.6 - 2.3 N.m {16 - 24 kgf.cm, 14 - 20 in.lbf}

Specification (At WOT):

8. Accelerate to the WOT and verify that the PCM terminal 89 voltage is within the specification.
- If not as specified, replace the TP sensor.

TP Sensor Adjustment Using the SSTs (NGS Tester)

1. Connect the SSTs (NGS tester) to the DLC-2.
2. Verify that the throttle valve is at the CTP.
3. Turn the ignition switch on.
4. Select the "PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD" function on the NGS tester display and press TRIGGER.

Specification (At CTP):

5. Select "TP V" on the NGS tester display and press START. Rotate the throttle link by hand and adjust the "TP V" voltage to specification.
6. Tighten the attaching screws.

Specification:
1.0 - 2.3 N.m {16 - 24 kgf.cm, 14 - 20 in.lbf}

Specification (At WOT):

7. When the throttle valve is at the WOT, verify that the "TP V" voltage is within the specification.
- If not as specified, replace the TP sensor.
