Recall - PCM Replacement for Emissions Standard Failure: Overview










DEALER LETTER

CONDITION OF CONCERN
On some 2001-2002 model year Miata vehicles equipped with 1.8 liter engines, Non Methane Organic Gas (NMOG) Emission may exceed the standard due to insufficient robustness of emission control logic and calibration of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) during the engine warm-up period after cold start.

OWNER NOTIFICATION
Mazda will notify owners by first class mail in five phases beginning November 30, 2005 with the Western Region.

NOTE: Remind customers to bring all ignition keys when scheduling appointments. Any key not present at time of repair will no longer start the engine.

PARTS INFORMATION
* Important notice: California Department of Motor Vehicles, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board and the Environmental Protection Agency for the State of Massachusetts and Vermont, have implemented the Registration Renewal/Recall Tie-In Program, which requires the completion of Emission Recalls prior to registration renewal. Mazda dealers must provide customers with a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction Certificate upon completion of the recall.

PARTS ORDERING



To order a PCM, complete the PCM Order Form. Fax the completed form to MNAO Technical Services. Your order will be processed and shipped directly to your dealership. Make sure the Warranty Vehicle Inquiry on eMDCS shows the campaign status as "Open" for the vehicle prior to submitting form. PCM orders will be processed as Customer Satisfaction Orders (CSO) and are reimbursable through warranty sublet.

Use MStore to order additional Campaign labels (1=sheet of 18 labels) and Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction certificates (1=50 certificates).




WARRANTY CLAIM PROCESSING INFORMATION




CSO Freight Charge Reimbursement
Dealer may claim reimbursement for CSO Freight charge by adding a sublet to the recall claim using the this format:

RENTAL CAR



A rental car may be provided to the customer if eligible based on the terms and conditions of the Rental Car Reimbursement Program, policy 12.0. Rental car reimbursements are available only on 2001 and newer vehicles within the mileage and time limitations under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. If the customer was placed in a rental car while the campaign was being completed, submit a separate claim/problem using the standard rental claim information.

Rental expenses exceeding the two-day limit will require prior DCSM Authorization, as outlined in the Rental Car Reimbursement Program policy.

VERIFY THE VEHICLE NEEDS THE RECALL




1. Verify the vehicle is within the ranges:

If the vehicle is within the above ranges, continue with procedure.

If vehicle is not within the above ranges, return it to inventory or the customer.

2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect vehicle for Campaign Label RECALL 3505H attached to the vehicle's hood or bulkhead.
