Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Not Using SST (NGS Tester)

Not Using SSTS (NGS) at Vref Terminal Inspection

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

2. Measure the voltage between TP sensor connector terminal A (vehicle side) and body ground.
- If not as specified, turn the ignition switch off. Disconnect the PCM connector, TP sensor connector, EGR valve position sensor connector, EGR boost sensor connector, and fuel tank pressure sensor connector.

Specification: Approx. 5.0 V

3. Verify there is no continuity (short) between TP sensor connector terminal A (vehicle side) and body ground. If there is continuity, repair the ground harness.

4. Verify there is continuity between the PCM connector terminal 3A and each sensor connector terminals such as TP sensor and others, which is applied to Vref.
- If there is no continuity, repair the harness (open) between the PCM connector 3A and each sensor connector terminals such as TP sensor and others, which is applied with Vref.
- If B+ is applied to TP sensor connector terminal A, disconnect the battery positive connector and inspect the continuity (short) between the battery positive connector and each sensor connector terminals such as TP sensor and others, which is applied to Vref.

Not Using SSTs (NGS) at Ground Terminal Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.
2. Verify the continuity between the PCM ground terminal and body ground.
- If it is not normal, repair the related harnesses.

Not Using SSTs (NGS) at SGC Terminal Inspection

1. Disconnect the distributor connectors.
2. Visually inspect the connecting condition of the male and female terminals.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
4. Measure the terminal voltage between the distributor connector (6-pin) terminal B and body ground using a voltmeter.
- If not as specified, inspect the related wiring harnesses for open (including the relay, fuse).

Terminal voltage: B+

5. Measure the terminal voltage between the distributor connector (6-pin) terminal D and body ground using a voltmeter.
- If not as specified, inspect the related wiring harness for open.

Terminal voltage: Approx. 5.0 V

6. Measure the terminal voltage between the distributor connector (3-pin) terminal A and body ground using a voltmeter.
- If not as specified, inspect the related wiring harnesses for open (including the relay, fuse).

Terminal voltage: B+

7. Turn the ignition switch off.
8. Inspect for continuity between the distributor connector (6-pin) terminal A and body ground using an ohmmeter.
- If there is no continuity, inspect the related wiring harnesses for open.

9. Inspect for continuity between the distributor connector (6-pin) terminal E and body ground using an ohmmeter.
- If there is no continuity, inspect the related wiring harnesses for open.

10. Connect the distributor connectors.
11. Remove the distributor cap and visually verify that there is no damage in the rotor.
- If it is not normal, inspect the CMP sensor.

12. Install the distributor cap.

Not Using SSTs (NGS) at Battery Power Terminal Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Measure the voltage between battery power terminal and ground.
- If it is not normal, repair the related harnesses.

Specification: B+

Not Using SSTs (NGS) at Serial Communication Terminal (DLC-2) Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.

2. Verify the continuity between PCM connector terminally and DLC-2 serial communication terminal.
- If it is not normal, repair the related harnesses.

Not Using SSTs (NGS) at Torque Reduction Request Terminal Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector and ABS/TCS CM connector.

2. Verify the continuity between PCM connector terminal 1Q and ABS/TCS CM connector terminal 2S.
- If it is not normal, repair the related harnesses.

Using SST (ESM Adapter Harness)

1. Turn ignition switch off.
2. Access PCM.
3. Disconnect the PCM connector.

4. Connect the SST (ESM adapter harness) between the PCM and the vehicle harness connectors.

NOTE: In order to measure the voltage, insert the positive voltmeter probe into the female terminal of the SST (ESM adapter harness) connectors.

5. Inspect the PCM terminal voltage according to the following table.
