FORWARD ONE-WAY CLUTCH, REAR INTERNAL GEAR
Forward One-Way Clutch Operation
Preinspection





1. While holding the forward clutch hub, verify that the rear internal gear rotates smoothly when turned clockwise and locks when turned counterclockwise.
2. If not as specified, replace the one-way clutch.

Disassembly/Assembly





1. Disassemble in the order shown in the figure.
2. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, referring to Assembly Procedure.

Assembly Procedure





1. Apply ATF to the forward one-way clutch outer race.
2. Install the forward one-way clutch in the forward clutch hub.
3. Install the side races to the forward one-way clutch.





3. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust washer and install it onto the rear internal gear.
4. Install the tabs of the thrust washer into the alignment holes on each side of the rear internal gear.





5. Install the rear internal gear in the forward clutch hub by turning it evenly and gradually.





6. While holding the forward clutch hub, verify that the one-way clutch rotates smoothly when turned clockwise and locks when turned counterclockwise. If not as specified, replace the forward one-way clutch.
