Torque Converter: Description and Operation

OUTLINE

- The FN4A-EL type torque converter uses torque converter clutch, like the FB4A-EL type.
- The torque converter clutch mechanically engages the pump impeller and the turbine runner under a certain conditions, and transmits the power, directly, preventing the torque converter slip.
- The torque converter efficiently matches the output characteristic of each engine.

STRUCTURE

- The torque converter with the torque converter clutch control consists of the turbine runner, pump impeller, stator, and the torque converter clutch piston as shown in the figure. The torque converter clutch piston engages with the turbine runner and slides on the turbine hub to be pushed and contacts with the torque converter cover during the torque converter clutch control operation. In the torque converter clutch piston, a spring for torsion damper is installed to absorb the engine torque fluctuation during torque converter clutch control.
