Audio System - Radio Removal Precautions

AUDIO REMOVAL - ELECTRICAL SHORT/DAMAGE TO PRINTED CIRCUIT

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
Vehicles equipped with Modular Audio System

^ 2001 & 2002 Millenia
^ 2001 & 2002 626
^ 2001 & 2002 Miata
^ 2001 & 2002 Protege

DESCRIPTION

When removing the vehicle's audio unit, an electrical short-circuit and/or damage to the radio's printed circuit plate may occur if the following conditions are allowed:

^ Negative battery cable is not disconnected before radio removal.

^ Radio removing tools are inserted too far, entering the radio chassis, making contact with circuit plate.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable according to Workshop manual (section 09-20 AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL).





2. Mark radio removing tools as specified in the illustration.

3. Insert radio removing tools into access holes according to Workshop Manual (section 09-20 AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL).





CAUTION:
To avoid damage to the radio's printed circuit plate, insert radio removing tools only as far as previously made marks {7/8" (22 mm)} in STEP 2.
