2001 Proteges with 1.6L engine.

DESCRIPTION

Under certain driving conditions, some vehicles may experience the MIL illumination with DTC P1170 stored in memory.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Perform "MODULE REPROGRAMMING" procedure. You must use the WDS version B19A (or later, If you use an earlier version of WDS software, you may damage the PCM) and re-flash the PCM to the latest PCM calibration P/N of 1ALF-12A650-FD (filename DXAHEQ0) for AT vehicles and 1ALF-12A650-GC (filename DXAHFR0) for MT vehicles.

NOTE:
^ WDS will prompt you to remove fuses for the fuel pump and the cooling fans. It is NOT necessary to remove any fuses for 2001 Protege.

^ To avoid battery drain, a battery charger should be connected to the battery with a charge rate of no more than 20 amps when performing the "MODULE REPROGRAMMING" procedure. More than 20 amps may damage the WDS PTU.
