Variable Valve Timing Actuator Inspection

VVT ACTUATOR INSPECTION
Stopper Pin

1. Hold a hexagonal part of the intake camshaft with a monkey wrench to prevent the camshaft from rotating. Make sure the VVT actuator does not move when turned by hand.
^ If it moves, replace the VVT actuator as the stopper pin in the VVT actuator is not moving.

Maximum Valve Timing Retard Position

1. Verify that the camshaft dowel pin hole on the VVT actuator is aligned with the top of the third tooth, by counting back 3 teeth to the sprocket gap which is aligned with the alignment mark.
^ If not, replace the VVT actuator as the stopper pin in the actuator is not engaged at the position of maximum valve timing retard.
