MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR INSPECTION

NOTE:
- Perform the following test only when directed.
- The following vacuum and pressure values are indicated by relative pressure from atmospheric pressure.

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.
2. Connect the SST (ESM adapter harness) between the PCM and the vehicle harness connectors.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

CAUTION: Do not apply vacuum or pressure outside of the specified limits. Doing so will damage the MAP sensor.

4. Apply pressure then a vacuum to the MAP sensor according to the following procedure.
5. Decrease the applied pressure from +100 kPa (+750 mmHg, +29.5 inHg} to -86.7 kPa {-650 mmHg, -25.6 inHg} and verify that the PCM terminal 3U voltage decreases accordingly.
- If terminal voltage is correct and there is harness continuity, replace the MAP sensor.
- If not as specified, perform the following inspection.

Reference data

NOTE:
- The output voltage varies with the measuring condition.
- Input voltage: 5.0 V
- Atmospheric pressure: 101 kPa {760 mmHg, 29.9 inHg}
- Outside temperature: 25 °C {77 °F}

6. Carry out the following steps.
1. Harness continuity
- Between PCM terminal 3AB and MAP sensor terminal A
- Between PCM terminal 3U and MAP sensor terminal B
- Between PCM terminal 3A and MAP sensor terminal C

2. Terminal voltage inspection (Ignition switch ON)
- MAP sensor terminal B voltage: Constant voltage (4.5 - 5.5 V)
- MAP sensor terminal A voltage: Ground (Less than 1.0 V)
