Removal/Installation

ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION





Warning
- Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
- Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure".


1. Remove the under cover.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Drain the ATF (ATX).
4. Remove the plug hole plate.
5. Remove the battery and battery tray.
6. Remove the air cleaner, intake air duct and vacuum hose.
7. Disconnect the ATF hose and selector cable (ATX).
8. Disconnect the shift cable, selector cable and clutch release cylinder (MTX).
9. Disconnect the plastic fuel hose.
10. Disconnect the engine and PCM wiring harness
11. Remove the joint shaft (RH).
12. Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle.
13. Remove the front crossmember.
14. Remove the front drive belt.
15. Remove the oil level gauge pipe.
16. Disconnect the P/S oil pump pipes and drain the P/S: fluid reservoir.
17. Remove the A/C compressor.
18. Remove the TWC (LH).
19. Remove the front pipe.
20. Disconnect the radiator hose and heater hose.
21. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
22. Install in the reverse order of removal.
23. Start the engine and:
1) Inspect for the engine oil, engine coolant, transaxle oil and fuel leakage.
2) Verify the ignition timing, idle speed and idle mixture.
24. Perform a road test.

1. Secure the engine and the transaxle using an engine jack and attachment as shown.

No.3 Engine Joint Bracket Installation Note





1. Secure the engine and the transaxle using an engine jack and attachment as shown.





2. Tighten the No.3 engine joint bracket bolt and nut in the order shown.
Bolt and nut No.
1 74.5 - 104.9 Nm (7.6 - 10.7 kgf-cm, 0 - 77.3 ft. lbs.)
2, 3, 4 43.1 - 60.8 Nm (4.4 - 6.1 kgf-cm, 31.8 - 44.8 ft. lbs.)

No.4 Engine Mount Bracket Installation Note





1. Secure the engine and the transaxle using an engine jack and attachment as shown.








2. Tighten the No.4 engine joint bracket bolt and nut in the order shown.
