2003 MAZDA6 - TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
"OFF SWITCH" RUBS/STICKS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

All 2003 Mazda6 vehicles equipped with Traction Control System

DESCRIPTION

The Traction Control System (TCS) "Off Switch" may rub or stick on the bottom edge of the lower instrument panel. In this condition, it may not be possible to turn the Traction Control System off. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired according to the following procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Remove the TCS Off Switch from the lower instrument panel according to the steps below:

1. Verify concern.

2. Record customer's radio pre-set stations.

3. Disconnect negative battery cable.

4. Reach under lower panel and locate TCS Off Switch.

5. Squeeze top and bottom of switch to disengage clips.

6. Pull switch out front of lower panel.





7. Disconnect TCS Off Switch electrical connector.





8. File off notches at top corners of opening until both notches are removed.

9. File 0.5 mm of material from top edge of opening to provide room for switch to move upward.





10. Obtain locally a piece of one-sided adhesive felt tape.

11. Cut one (1) piece of felt tape to the following size: 7 mm x 15 mm x 1.5 mm thick

12. Gently lift bottom clip with screwdriver to insert felt tape.

13. Place felt tape (adhesive side to switch body) under bottom clip as shown.

14. Reconnect TCS Off Switch electrical connector.

15. Reinstall TCS Off Switch into panel.

16. Verify clearance around switch to ensure proper switch function.

17. Reconnect negative battery cable.

18. Enter customers radio pre-set stations.





19. Verify repair.
