AND/OR BRAKE MOAN NOISE

This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin issued on 07/01/04. The REPAIR PROCEDURE and WARRANTY INFORMATION has been revised.
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2003 - 2004 Mazda6 vehicles built before October 1, 2003
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit the following symptoms from the braking system.
^ Vibration/brake judder felt in the brake pedal or steering wheel when applying the brakes.
^ A moan noise when applying warm brakes during slow speed turns.
Customers having any of these concerns should have their vehicle inspected and repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
^ For vibration/brake judder concern, proceed to Step 2.
^ For brake moan noise concern, proceed to Step 3.
2. Machine the front disc plate(s) using the required Mazda On-Car Brake Lathe (#) 168-00362) or equivalent caliper mount type brake lathe. After machining is complete, proceed to Step 3.
^ Minimum disc plate thickness: 23 mm (0.91 in.)
NOTE:
Verify on-car brake lathe is a caliper mount type, not a hub mount type. If a caliper mount type brake lathe is not available, the disc plate(s) must be replaced.
3. Replace front brake pads with modified pads.
4. Confirm there is no brake drag after repair.
5. Verify repair.

NOTE:
This warranty information applies only to verified customer complaints on vehicles eligible for warranty repair. The Warranty term for this repair has been extended to 36 months from vehicle m-service date or 50,000 accrued miles, which ever occurs first.
