09-001/05 2004-2005 RX-8 - CONTACT MARKS ON CENTER OF SIDE SILLAPPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2005 RX-8 - With VINs lower than of JM1FE******147469 (vehicles built before October 18, 2004)
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may notice contact marks on the center area of the side sill. The weather-strips of the front and rear doors may interfere with the body, resulting in contact marks on the side sill. Sand and dust may become trapped between the weather-strips and side sills due to excessive sealing strength of the weather-strips, and may leave marks due to body vibration during driving.
A mass production change has been carried out to prevent the contact marks through the addition of protective films on the right and left side sills. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE - TYPE A - ORIGINAL OUTER SCUFF PLATE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Pull the outer edge of scuff plate upward to detach clips from the body and remove scuff plate.

b. Polish the damaged area and around the damaged area with a light buffing compound safe for clear coat.
