DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit damage on the left and right rear combination lights, trunk and/or rear bumper. This may be caused by interference between the trunk, rear combination lights and bumper.
Customers experiencing this concern should have their vehicles repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern. Check for damage caused by contact between trunk lid, rear combination lights, edge of trunk lid and/or rear bumper cover.
2. Repair contact damage as follows:
a. Use de-greaser or window cleaner to clean the damaged area.
b. Polish the damaged area and around the damaged area with a light buffing compound safe for clear coat.
c. Remove all compound residue using a soft cloth.
3. Apply protector film to the trunk lid inner panel as follows:
a. Use de-greaser to clean the area where protector film will be applied.
b. Place the protector film (without peeling off the backing sheet) by the edge of trunk lid as shown.
c. Peel off the lower portion of the backing sheet (1) and attach the protector film.
d. Peel off the remaining portion of the backing sheet (2) and attach the protector film. NOTE: Do not allow the edges of the protector film to curl.
4. Replace the trunk weather-strip with a modified one.
a. Note position of red marks on old trunk weather-strip prior to removal. One will be at each rear corner of trunk opening and one will be in center of trunk, near rear window. These marks will aid in installation of modified trunk weather-strip.
b. Install modified truck weather-strip.
5. Measure distance between trunk lid-to-rear combination light and trunk lid-to-rear bumper. If measurements are as follow, go to STEP 7. If measurements are not as follow, go to next step.
^ Measurement A between the trunk lid and bumper:
5.0 - 6.0 mm (0.20-0.24 inch)
^ Measurement B between the trunk lid comers and rear combination lights:
6.0 - 8.0 mm (0.24-0.31 inch)
6. Adjust the trunk lid latch to ensure proper clearance.
a. Remove the trunk end trim surrounding the trunk lid latch striker by unscrewing the hooks (vehicles with rear cargo net) or by removing the 4 push-pin fasteners (vehicles without rear cargo net) and pulling trunk end trim upward to release clips.
b. Loosen the 3-trunk lid latch striker bolts.
c. Adjust the trunk lid latch so the trunk lid-to-rear combination light and trunk lid-to-rear bumper clearances are as specified in STEP 5.
d. Tighten truck lid latch striker bolts.
7. Verify repair.
