DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience the MIL coming on with DTC P0456: EVAP system leak detected (very small leak). This is caused by water leaking into the fuel filler cap through the tether installation hole. When this happens, rust appears inside the cap and sticks to the valve seal, causing poor sealing. As a result, evaporative gas leaks and the MIL comes on with DTC P0456.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Replace fuel filler cap with a modified part.

3. Clear DTC.

4. Verify repair.
