Attachment I - Dealer Service and Parts Information

CONDITION OF CONCERN

On certain RX-8 vehicles, the dynamic damper heat insulator, which is installed on the manual transmission, may be cracked, causing abnormal noise. Should you continue operating the vehicle in this condition, the insulator could come off while driving and could pose a serious hazard to a following vehicle.

Mazda will notify U.S. owners by first class mail beginning March 5, 2004.





PARTS INFORMATION

PARTS ORDERING

Dealers will automatically receive a quantity of Damper Brackets on stock orders. This quantity is based on the number of 2004 RX-8 (manual transmission models) retail sales per dealer. Parts shipments will begin 2/24/04, and will arrive on dealers' next stock order. Most dealers will receive parts by 2/27/04, while all dealers will have them by 3/3/04.

If additional Damper Brackets are needed AFTER RECEIVING THE SECOND INITIAL PARTS SHIPMENT FOR CUSTOMER VEHICLES, order them by faxing an order form with a VIN for each vehicle to Mazda Corporate Dealer Assistance Group at (866)-366-2061. The maximum order quantity per VIN for the Damper Bracket is one (1). The order form can be found:

^ by clicking on the recall number on the eMDCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Detail screen

For additional parts ordered through the Corporate Dealer Assistance Group, Mazda will ship parts as CSO orders, and freight will be reimbursed as a sublet on warranty claims.

Use MStore to order additional Campaign labels (1=sheet of 18 labels).





WARRANTY CLAIM PROCESSING INFORMATION

CSO Freight Charge Reimbursement





Parts ordered from Corporate Dealer Assistance Group will be shipped as a CSO order. Dealer may claim reimbursement by adding a sublet to the recall claim using the format shown.

RENTAL CAR





If the customer was placed in a rental car while the campaign was being completed add a sublet to the claim using the information shown.

VERIFY THE VEHICLE NEEDS THE RECALL





1. Verify the vehicle is within the ranges shown.

If the vehicle is within the above ranges, go to step 2.

If vehicle is not within the above range, return it to inventory or the customer.

2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect vehicle for an Authorized Modification Label RECALL 1704B attached to the vehicle's bulkhead.

Note:
Verify the recall number as the vehicle may have multiple labels.

^ If eMDCS displays "RECALL: 1704B Open" and an Authorized Modification Label is not present, the recall has not been performed. Proceed to "REPAIR PROCEDURES."

^ If eMDCS displays "RECALL: 1704B Open" and an Authorized Modification Label is present, contact the Mazda Corporate Dealer Assistance Group at (877)-727-6626. They will update the vehicle history.

^ If eMDCS displays "RECALL: 1704B Closed" and an Authorized Modification Label is not present, complete a label and apply it to the vehicle's bulkhead.

^ If eMDCS displays "RECALL: 1704B Closed" and an Authorization Modification Label is present, the recall has already been completed. Return the vehicle to inventory or the customer.

^ If eMDCS does not display "RECALL: 1704B Open" or "RECALL: 1704B Closed," this recall does not apply to the vehicle. Return vehicle to inventory or the customer.
