2005 MAZDA6 2.3L - UNUSUAL NOISE FROM DRIVE BELT AUTO TENSIONER

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2003 - 2005 Mazda6 2.3L vehicles with VINs lower than 1YV*P8***55M54250 (produced before April 1, 2005)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit an unusual noise such as rattling, groaning, or squeaking from the engine compartment during normal driving conditions. The noise may be caused by the drive belt tensioner spring making contact with the internal tensioner cup.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Record customer's preset radio stations.

3. Disconnect negative battery cable.

WARNING:
Avoid injury from cooling fans, be sure to disconnect negative battery cable.





4. Replace the Drive Belt Auto Tensioner with a modified part according to the Workshop Manual (Section 01-10A DRIVE BELT AUTO TENSIONER INSPECTION [L3]).

5. Connect negative battery cable.

6. Re-enter customer's preset radio stations.

7. Verify repair.
