A/C - Erratic Seat Heater Operation

09-007/05 2003-2005 MAZDA6 - IMPROPER SEAT WARMER OPERATION

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2003 - 2005 Mazda6 vehicles equipped with front seat warmers

DESCRIPTION

When the ignition switch is in the ON position and the seat warmer switch is activated, the seat "bottom" cushion does not warm up while the seat back cushion warms up or may have excessive heat. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.





2. Turn driver and passenger side seat warmer switches to ON position.

3. Wait for both side seat warmers to warm up.

4. Place hand on seat bottom and seat back cushions of both front seats.





NOTE:
^ If seat bottom and seat back cushion feels warm, system is operating normally. No repairs are necessary, return vehicle to customer.

^ If either seat bottom cushion is cold and that seat back cushion is warm, proceed to Step 5.

5. Record customer's radio pre-set stations.

6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.

7. Disconnect negative battery cable.

8. Remove four (4) seat frame mounting bolt plastic covers from affected seat(s).

9. Remove four (4) seat frame mounting bolts from affected seat(s).

10. Carefully tilt seat rearward.

WARNING:
^ Do not over-tilt seats; seat warmer wire harnesses under seats may stretch and become damaged.

^ Take extreme care not to stretch or damage two (2) side air bag harnesses (if vehicle equipped) located under driver and passenger side seats. Side air bags may not deploy in an accident if harnesses and/or connectors are stretched or damaged.





11. Inspect two (2) seat warmer connectors under seat(s) to ensure proper connections (as shown).

NOTE:
Connectors have same shape and may be incorrectly connected.

NOTE:
^ If connectors are properly connected (as shown above), proceed to Step 12.

^ If connectors are improperly connected, reconnect them as shown above, then proceed to Step 13.

12. Inspect seat warmer electrical harnesses and seat bottom warmer element for damage. Repair/replace as necessary, proceed to Step 13.

WARNING:
If it becomes necessary to disconnect side air bag connectors under driver and/or passenger seat during repair, be sure to properly reconnect side air bag connectors once repair is complete. Refer to Section 08 of the applicable Workshop Manual as necessary.

13. Reconnect negative battery cable.

14. Turn ignition switch to ON position.

15. Turn seat warmer switch for affected seat(s) to ON position.

16. Confirm proper seat bottom and seat back warmer operation.

17. Reinstall four (4) seat frame mounting bolts.

Tightening Torque: 27-39 ft-lbf.

18. Reinstall four (4) seat frame mounting bolt plastic covers.

19. Re-enter customer's radio pre-set stations.
