IGNITION COIL INSPECTION

Primary Coil Winding

1. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.

2. Measure the resistance between the following L3 (with DEI system) L3 (with SEI system) terminals using an ohmmeter: AJ
- L3 (with DEI system): A and B, B and C
- L3 (with SEI system): A and B
- AJ: A and B
- If not within the specification, replace the ignition coil.

Specification
L3 (with DEI system): 0.49 - 0.57 ohms [20 °C {68 °F)}]
L3 (with SEI system): 0.45 - 0.65 ohms [25 °C {68 °F}]
AJ: 0.45 - 1.15 ohms [25 °C {77 °F}

Secondary Coil Winding

1. Remove the ignition coil.

2. Measure the resistance between the following using an ohmmeter.
- L3 (with DEI system): Lead hole 1 to 4, 2 to 3
- L3 (with SEI system): Terminal A to coil boot socket
- AJ: Terminal A to coil boot socket
- If not within the specification, replace the ignition coil.

Specification
L3 (with DEI system): 9.5 - 11.1 kOhms [20 °C {68 °F}]
L3 (with SEI system): 5.0 - 6.0 kOhms [25 °C {77 °F}]
AJ: 5.0 - 6.0 kOhms [25 °C {77 °F}]

Insulation Resistance of Case

1. Remove the high-tension lead. (L3 (with DEI system)) (See HIGH-TENSION LEAD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 (with DEI system)].)
2. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.

3. Measure the insulation resistance between the following using an ohmmeter.
- L3 (with DEI system): Terminal B to ignition coil case
- L3 (with SEI system): Terminal A to ignition coil case
- AJ: Terminal A to ignition coil case
- If not as specified, replace the ignition coil.

Specification
10 megohms or more
