Extension Housing: Service and Repair
EXTENSION HOUSING, PARKING MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the battery cover.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Clean the transmission exterior thoroughly using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent.
5. Drain the ATF.
6. Mark the manual shaft lever component.
7. Separate the manual shaft lever component from the selector lever.
8. Remove the following parts.
1. Front tunnel member
2. Rear tunnel member
3. Catalytic converter, middle pipe, main silencer.
4. Heat insulator
5. Power plant frame.
6. Propeller shaft.

9. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
11. Align the mark of the manual shaft lever component.
12. Install the manual shaft lever component installation nut.
Tightening torque 10.8 - 14.7 Nm (1.1 - 1.4 kgf-cm, 8.0 - 10.8 ft. lbs.)
13. Add ATF and, with the engine idling, inspect the ATF level and inspect for leakage.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
15. Install the battery cover.
16. Install the engine cover.
Extension Housing Removal Note
Caution:
^ Use caution when removing the extension housing as the output shaft may fall out and become damaged.
^ If the output shaft falls out, install it securely to the transmission.
1. Hold the output shaft so that it does not fall out, and remove the extension housing.
Extension Housing Installation Note
1. Apply sealant to the extension housing.
2. Make sure that the output shaft is installed securely and install the extension housing.
Tightening torque 50 - 55 Nm (5.1 - 5.6 kgf-cm, 37 - 40 ft. lbs.)
